ELITE SWIMMING would like to introduce our two Coaches, Gerald and Efi Item (pronounced ētum).  Our Head Coach, Coach Gerry, comes to us with many years of swimming and coaching experience here in the United States and abroad.

For the last two years, Coach Gerry has been the Coordinator for the Indonesian National Swimmers training here in the US.

  • 1998-2005:  Head Coach for the Indonesian National Team for several national events.

  • 1998-2005:  Started club (Elfira Swima Gemilang) with his wife Efi.  From 1998-2005, this club was consistently ranked in the top 3 nationally and many of its swimmers became national swimmers representing Indonesia in various international competitions.

  • 1996-1998:  Head Coach for the Indonesian National Training Center for National B Team which consisted mostly of age group swimmers.

Coach Gerry is also an accomplished swimmer:

  • 1978-1979:  4-time San Diego County CIF Champion while training at Coronado Navy Swim Association under Coach Mike Troy.

  • 1977-1981:  Multiple Gold Medalist at SEA Games, and Silver and Bronze Medalist in Asian Games while representing Indonesia.

Additionally, Efi Item, has joined us.  Coach Efi will be training our Age Group Select.  She also has many years of swimming and coaching experience. 

  • 2005:  National Coach for the Indonesian Swim Team at the South East Asian Games, Philippines.

  • 2003:  National Coach for the Indonesian Swim Team at the South East Asian Games, Vietnam.

  • 1998-present:  Owner of Elfira Swima Gemilang Swim Club in Indonesia.

  • 1981-1993:  Coach Efi was a Indonesian National Swimmer with 8 National Records.

Message from Coach Efi:  "It is always fun and exciting to work with young people who have a goal.  It is not just swimming, but a chance to improve their life mentally and physically.  I am very blessed to be working with Elite Swimming.  I am looking forward to transferring my knowledge of swimming to the kids and sharing my swimming experience with them.  I know it will be a fun and enjoyable experience."
